Mount Direction |
Mount Direction is normally reached by starting at Risdon Brook Reservoir and walking up the east side. Today I started at the end of Kandos Drive in Otago and walked up the western side.
I parked just off the road and walked up the easement that leads into Meehan Range Reserve. Don't be put off by the letterbox on the road because it is an easement.
I walked up the track servicing the power line before branching off and starting to climb. The climb is reasonably steep but quite okay and it is all open bush and levels off at the top to a nice open grassy area.

The walking was quite level now across a saddle to Mount Direction and then the short climb to the summit. It was a stunning day.

From the summit I walked down to the watercourse and followed that back to almost the start. It was steep going down and I managed to slip over a couple of times.
